Over the past eight years, we have developed a tradition of bringing out West-African Master Drummers, for intensive drumming workshops.

Participants at previous workshops (held since 1999), have described them as a “breakthrough” for their drumming technique and style. For others, the workshops have deepened their appreciation for the complex African rhythms, songs and dances that they have learned.

The workshops include techniques and exercises for beginners, and more advanced rhythms and cross-rhythms for intermediate and advanced drummers. Song and movement are integrated into the workshop, allowing the participants to better understand the dialogue between the drum rhythms and dance in West- African traditional music.

For anyone who is linked in any way to drumming and rhythm – be it as a teacher/facilitator, a performer or simply someone who enjoys jamming with friends – these workshops are of enormous value.
