- Over the past eight
years, we have developed a tradition of bringing out West-African
Master Drummers, for intensive drumming workshops.
-
- Participants at previous
workshops (held since 1999), have described them as a breakthrough
for their drumming technique and style. For others, the workshops
have deepened their appreciation for the complex African rhythms,
songs and dances that they have learned.
-
- The workshops include
techniques and exercises for beginners, and more advanced rhythms
and cross-rhythms for intermediate and advanced drummers. Song
and movement are integrated into the workshop, allowing the participants
to better understand the dialogue between the drum rhythms and
dance in West- African traditional music.
-
- For anyone who is
linked in any way to drumming and rhythm be it as a teacher/facilitator,
a performer or simply someone who enjoys jamming with friends
these workshops are of enormous value.
